Routine Care
There are three types of countertop finish: matte/satin, semi-gloss and high-gloss. Most countertops are finished with a matte/satin finish. All sinks have a matte/satin finish. Soapy water, ammonia based cleaners or commercially available solid surface cleaners will remove most dirt and residue from all types of finishes. Stubborn residue will require a little stronger cleaner. Follow the recommendations below to properly clean your countertop and sink.
With many different colors and varying hues, some colors may appear to require more frequent cleaning to maintain a uniform finish. Darker colors tend to require more attention than lighter colors. Over time, through care and use, your countertop will acquire a patina, changing the appearance of the finish. Your original finish can be restored with a little effort. Contact the solid surface department at Consolidated for details.
Cleaning All Finishes
Most dirt & residue - Use soapy water or ammonia based cleaner, rinse and wipe dry.
Water marks - Wipe with damp cloth and wipe dry
Difficult residue - Spray residue with Countertop Cleaner from Stone Care International, wait for about 30 seconds for cleaner to work. Wipe dry with a paper towel. If residue persists, repeat process. If residue still persists, follow directions for removing scratches.
Disinfecting - Occasionally wipe surface with dilute household bleach (1 part water/1 part bleach). Rinse top thoroughly with water and wipe dry.
Preventing Heat Damage
Solid surface is an excellent material for heat resistance. As with all countertop materials, it is important to minimize direct heat exposure to protect your surface and investment. We recommend using heat trivets or hot pads when placing hot objects on any surface. Allow cookware to cool before placing them into solid surface sink.
Preventing Other Damage
In most cases your solid surface top can be repaired if accidentally damaged. However, be sure to follow the guidelines here to prevent any permanent damage to your top.
- Avoid exposing your top or sink to strong chemicals, such as paint removers, oven cleaners, etc. If contact occurs, quickly flush the surface with water.
- Do not cut directly on your countertop.
- Boiling water alone will not damage your solid surface sink; however it's a good practice to run your faucet while pouring boiling water into your sink.

Quartz (Cambria & Zodiaq)
Maintaining your quartz countertop is easy. Simply wash with warm water and pH neutral, non- abrasive cleaners such as Formula 409® or Simple Green®, and rinse with clear water. For dried spills, a wet cotton cloth should be used. Avoid bleach: alkaline (high pH) cleaners such as oven cleaners, abrasive cleansers such as Comet®, Soft Scrub® products or products containing pumice, SOS® pads and other similar products, paint removers, furniture strippers, tarnish or silver cleaners or the like. Sudden and rapid change of temperature especially near the edges, as well as direct or sustained heating of the top can damage quartz countertops. Please use a hot pad or trivet when transferring hot pans, etc.
DO NOT - apply any sealers, penetrants or topical treatments to the quartz countertop under
any circumstances
Granite Natural Stone
Your granite countertop has been treated with a penetrating sealer, which helps protect the stone from staining. The sealer bonds to the stone and acts as a repellent to prevent absorption, yet it lets the stone breathe and release moisture. It protects against both water and oil-based products. We recommend you apply a penetrating sealer once a year.
The natural stone you have purchased is an investment that gives you many years of beautiful service. Stone is a natural product and proper care and maintenance is important. Here are some recommendations for routine care and cleaning:
- Clean stone surface with a few drops of neutral cleaner, stone soap, or mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water. Use a clean cloth for best results. Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks. Do be sure to blot up spills immediately.
- Do not use products that contain lemon, vinegar or other acids on the granite. High acid content may etch the surface. Do not use scouring pads or creams; these products contain abrasives that may scratch the surface.
- Sudden and rapid change of temperature especially near the edges, as well as direct or sustained heat on the top can damage stone countertops. Please use a hot pad or trivet when transferring hot pans, etc.
